Two Choices

By : Stephen Edwards

How do we change the way we feel at any given moment? How do we generate powerful thoughts, emotions, and feelings consistently? We know what fear is and how we allow fear to negatively impact relationships, careers, and finances. We must find the courage, strength and determination, patience and persistence necessary to resolve these issues and create the life of our dreams and the life of fulfillment we truly deserve. How do we access our most resourceful thoughts and feelings, and how do we face our fear and feel our power? Well, let me tell you of such a person who's done just that. His name is Michael, a gentlemen I once worked with.

Now, Michael is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I'd be twins!" He was a natural motivator, and if an employee was having a bad day, Michael was there telling the employee how to look at the positive side of the situation.

Seeing him consistently having this type of attitude made me curious. So one day I went up to Michael and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be positive all of the time. How do you do it?" Michael replied, "Each morning, I wake up and say to myself, I have two choices today: I can choose to be in a good mood, or I can choose to be in a bad mood. I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim, or I can choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining, or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested. "Yes it is," Michael said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all of the junk, every situation is a choice. You can choose how you react to any situation. You can choose how other people affect your mood. You can choose to be in a good mood or a bad mood. The bottom line is, it's your choice how to live your life." I reflected on what Michael said.

Soon after this, I left that company and started my own business – I made a choice about my life instead of just reacting to it. We lost touch, but I often thought about Michael and his advice. It helped me at several critical junctures of my life.

Several years later, I heard that Michael was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower. After 18 hours of surgery, and weeks in intensive care, Michael was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back. I saw Michael about six months after the accident, and I asked him how he was. He replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins! Do you want to see my scars?"

I declined to look at his wounds, but I did ask him what was going through his mind when the accident took place. "The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon-to-be-born daughter," Michael replied. "Then as I lay on the ground, I remembered I had two choices: I could choose to live, or I could choose to die. I chose to live."

"Were you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked. Michael continued, "The paramedics were great; they kept telling me everything was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes I read, 'He's a dead man.' I knew I needed to take action." "What did you do?" I asked. "Well there was this big burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Michael.

Today is the Day to Turn Your Life Around!
Every day is the day that turns somebody's life around forever. Is TODAY that day for YOU? By the end of this note, you'll know the answer.

Think about the successes you've experienced so far in life, and I'll bet you can point to a particular moment in time when each one began, just like the heroine of this brief but powerful story:

One evening, not many years ago, a young housewife realized she didn't have enough cash on hand to buy some of the groceries she needed for the rest of the week. As a stay-at-home mother and wife, she was entirely dependent upon her husband for income. So, when he arrived home from work that evening, she asked him for an extra 10 dollars.
Hearing the question, he turned to her with visible irritation. He heaved a sigh, rolled his eyes, and asked, "What for?"

Why do you want money?

“Money is not required to buy one necessity of the soul.”
-- Henry David Thoreau

Money is nothing more than a medium of exchange. While we may want more money to get out of debt or to have more cash to play with, we want to set goals that represent more than just making money. And so we might ask, “What do I want money to do for me?”

Look to the values beneath money. What is happiness to you? What things, qualities, service, purpose do you value in life?

"If all the gold in the world were melted down into a solid cube, it would be about the size of an eight room house. If a man got possession of all that gold -- billions of dollars worth -- he could not buy a friend, character, peace of mind, clear conscience or a sense of eternity."
-- Charles F. Bunning

Heal your relationship with MONEY with our 90 day support program. Discover and resolve your behaviours, emotions and limiting beliefs around money. Shift your money consciousness, your self worth and your net worth.

Paid In Full

YourSuccessStore
Go Here -> Your very best source for Inspiration, Sales, Leadership and Personal Development Resources and home of Your Achievement Ezine featuring the very best personal development articles, quotes and success tools from Your Masters of Success..

A little boy came up to his mother in the kitchen one evening while she was fixing supper, and he handed her a piece of paper that he had been writing on. After his mom dried her hands on an apron, she read it, and this is what it said:

  • For cutting the grass: $5.00
  • For cleaning up my room this week: $1.00
  • For going to the store for you: .50
  • Baby-sitting my kid brother while you went shopping: .25
  • Taking out the garbage: $1.00
  • For getting a good report card: $5.00
  • For cleaning up and raking the yard: $2.00

Total owed: $14.75

Well, his mother looked at him standing there, and the boy could see the memories flashing through her mind. She picked up the pen, turned over the paper he'd written on, and this is what she wrote:

  • For the nine months I carried you while you were growing inside me: No Charge.
  • For all the nights that I've sat up with you, doctored and prayed for you: No Charge.
  • For all the trying times, and all the tears that you've caused through the years: No Charge.
  • For all the nights that were filled with dread, and for the worries I knew were ahead: No Charge.
  • For the toys, food, clothes, and even wiping your nose: No Charge, Son.

When you add it up, the cost of my love is: No Charge.

When the boy finished reading what his mother had written, there were big tears in his eyes, and he looked straight up at his mother and said, "Mom, I sure do love you." And then he took the pen and in great big letters he wrote: "PAID IN FULL".

"There is no pleasure in having nothing to do. The fun is in having lots to do and not doing it."
-- Mary Little

When you're tempted with a promise of pleasure, does guilt promptly spoil it for you?

For many of us, the work ethic still rules supreme. It keeps our life out of balance and our health at risk. There will always be lots of work to do. We can't wait for it to go away to enjoy ourselves.

Today, we invite you to become aware of your attitude towards rest, relaxation, pleasure and fun. When you give yourself a break, do you carry guilt through it? Deep down, do you believe that you don't deserve to have a good time, that you haven't earned a holiday? If you do discover these thoughts, send them packing.

"Guilt is the source of sorrows, the avenging fiend that follows us behind with whips and stings."
-- Nicholas Rowe
